It has been a very productive week since last Thursday!

I left my house on Thursday of last week to go two hours away to Columbia, SC to help my best friend clean out her storage building, well we got it done...and it looked really good.  We then went to the local hangout where a lot of her friends(bikers) and a few of mine hang out.  It was a nice visit to get to see people I haven't seen in a while.  On Friday I didn't think we were going to be able to come back to GA due to the bad storms we were having.  But finally we made it home, right at dark.  Saturday, I got the pleasure of teaching my friend how to make bread and homemade pretzels.  She loves to cook and she does bake a little but not much.  so it was so much fun to show her how to make them both.  Everything turned out great.  Edwin, her boyfriend, cooked supper Saturday night and it was amazing.  Thanks Edwin.

Megan, gave me so many gifts too.  But I really have to tell you about the pretty purple leather zipper bag for my purse.  It as a letter 'P" on it and I just love it.  But while she was here she also cleaned my outdoor kitchen, and boy oh boy did it look so good.  She didn't have to do anything while she was here but she is always surprising me and doing something.  Thank you Megan...Love ya Girl.

Today, I attempted my hand at making snickerdoodles.  I have always loved them but have never made them before because every recipe I saw called for cream of tartar which I've never had on hand.  Well this recipe called for corn starch instead.   So I gave it a try.  I will tell you that these turned out so good that they will be made again.
Just put in oven

Wow look how they spread

Hard Work Homestead: Pop overs

Popover recipe from one of my MaryJanes's Farmgirls

I was reading the MaryJane's Farmgirl chatroom last night and came across on the farmgirls named Jane.  She has a blog which is Hard Work Homestead.  Her blog is wonderful...you should check it out.  While reading her blog I came across a recipe for popovers.  I made them last night and not only were they easy but tasty and light as a feather.  I think everyone should try these.

Venison roast

I'm going to try to go to bed soon...back hurt last night so much couldn't hardly lay down so climbed into bed at 4 and up at 6:30, had planned on a nap today but Hubby wanted me to help him put the venison roast on, you know cut up all the goodies and crack the black peppercorns. He was going to use my stoneware for the first time so he wanted me there..lol..We let it cook for 5 hours(now this is his recipe not mine) on 250 degrees. He added other stuff to it also, anyway we weren't planning on eating it tonight anyway, but after it cooled alittle bit I opened it up before placing it in the fridge and tasted it...oh my goodness, it was amazing...I even came back to the bedroom and woke DH him (he goes to bed early and I'm a night owl) so I could tell him how wonderful it was. Tomorrow we are going to add more carrots and onions along with potatoes(didn't put potatoes in at all yet), then I'm making mashed potatoes DH favorite, sweet peas and maybe mac and cheese. I know, I know you are wondering why make mash potatoes if I am putting them in the roast when I am heating it up...well the potatoes that are going in the roast will make Sat or Sun. supper. Venison stew......and mash potatoes for tomorrows supper... Anyway hope everyone has a great evening and a great Vet. Day tomorrow...

Hubby's Birthday Pig Pickin

On Oct 29th we had a pig pickin for Jim's BD.  Two weeks before I was sitting on our front porch and heard something in the field chopping on the acorns or the pin oaks.  I looked and saw two wild hogs about 75 yards in front of the cabin.  I got Jim to come out(he is an excellent shot) and he shot one of the hogs.  It ran to the right and three more ran to the left.  We thought he missed, which is very unusual.  Well, the one that ran to the right had been hit, so that's when we decided on the pig picken.
